why does an electric oven explode?

i have an electric oven and yesterday, while i was heating something inside it, the glass door exploded. mind you, this is an old oven, and it always burned my food even in the lowest settings.

wench April 3, 2010 at 5:08 pm: If there was a flaw in the glass it can shatter. You see this quite often on newer ovens. You do sometimes see this on older ones as well, but not so often. You can get the door glass replaced, but from the sound of things – you might just want a new oven.
