The difference between an electric tandoori oven and an electric oven is this:

A tandoori oven is designed so that its sides curve inwards towards a centralized exhaust hole and is designed to provide very high, dry heat- approaching 900 degrees Fahrenheit (480 degrees Celsius). At such high temperatures, most foods develop a very crisp outer layer without sacrificing moistness on the inside.

Tandoori recipes can be cooked in d in a regular gas or electric oven, but they will lose
most of their flavor, because of the design differences (inwardly curving versus boxy) in shape and lower temperature range.

If you do not want to invest in a Tandoori oven, you still can approximate the results of a Tandoori oven. To mimic tandoori baking in a regular electric or gas oven, you’ll need a baking stone or some unglazed quarry tiles placed on an oven rack. The larger the baking surface, the better. The stone or tiles should cover the rack with a one-inch gap around the edge to let hot air circulate. Heat these tiles first and then follow your recipe.

Disadvantages of an electric tandoor: High cost
Advantage: Longer life and less maintenance than a clay tandoor. If you are really exploring options, you need to look at gas tandoori overs as well.
