Electric oven was smoking after good cleaning?

by admin on May 5, 2010

My electric oven was smoking after good cleaning and scrub with good oven cleaner and when I turn it back on after cleaning, the element was smoking and went red immediately after 30 seconds on 100 degree celcius. I am not sure what is the main problem here? I thought that it needs a good clean but I did that part. Any suggestion will help.
Thanks heaps

You probably just got some cleaner on the element. The same thing happened to mine. Just let it smoke for a while until it cooks off.

You might have jarred one of the elements (try pushing it gently but firmly toward the oven wall); or, more likely, you got some cleaner on the element (i.e., the part that heats up) and it’s just burning off. Leaving the oven on for 15-20 minutes at a warming temperature should take care of it. (and as always, don’t leave home with the oven on… EVER!)
