High ceilinged rooms are more difficult to heat and cool simply because of the large volume of air needing to be heated. Cakes will cook the fastest in the middle of an ovan because the radiant temperature is the the closest to being the same above and below the cake. Walls near a radiator get dusty because warm air rises. Cooler air that contains dust is moving across the floor is sucked up by the thermal drafts pulling the cooler air up through the radiator to warm it.
